About Mesa....
I stole this from a person on Flight Info who stole it from the Mesa board. I think it's good reading for all the regional hopefuls out there.
Stolen with pride from the MesaHub. Help us get the word out.
OK. So heres the deal. I have been here for 2.5 years and . Well lets not even get into all of the things that I want to say about working here that are funny, legit, or outrageous. This my friend is a cold hard reality.
A major plus for working for a company like Mesa is the fast upgrades. J.O is always bragging to everyone how long someone has to work here before becoming captain. Pay your dues the faithful cry out.
Well I have paid my dues. 2000 hours on the Jet and no upgrade in site. What you say. Its just around the corner. Should be next month or the month after that or 3 or so. Dont worry. Its coming because people are leaving here by the dozen. You are wrong.
I am sick of hearing it but the thing that makes me the most sick about the whole matter is the fact that new hires are coming here expecting to be captain very soon. Well for a few in the Dash-8 that is a reality but for those on the jets it is a prison sentence. Let me explain. I am on the CRJ. That means I cant bid captain on any other equipment except the CRJ or ERJ. My seat lock is permanent except for those two captain positions. Let me reiterate. I can never move form my current position except to CRJ/ERJ captain. My dues have been paid in full and my seniority dictates that I hold captain on the Dash-8 but new hires are jumping right in front of me. I guess I have to pay my dues and theirs.
So. You say that my upgrade is just around the corner. I am very sick of hearing this and its really starting to make me mad. Based on WHAT? Go ahead and tell me now. What crystal ball do you have to look into because I aint seeing it and folks have been saying it to me for over a year? You are wrong. I pulled out the rosters yesterday to gather evidence to support my point. I was a new F.O. in PHL. Back then captains were upgrading around the 2 year mark. It was very fast. There was a captain who was displaced when I was. She was J4J. She was awarded Captain in IAD. She was the most junior CRJ captain in the whole company. Today there are 16 people below her in IAD (The most junior base) on the CRJ. For a quick review. At the time of this post that was a whopping 18 months ago. There are 79 seniority digits between her and the most junior CRJ captain today. At that rate I will have hit 5.5 year mark before I can hold captain on the CRJ. The ERJ is somewhat closer to me in seniority but who even knows what is up with that system.
I thought that it would be better to get this out in here instead of having it out with someone the next time they tell me that my upgrade is just around the corner. If you intend to say that to someone please have some facts to back it up. Furthermore. Please let this nasty little secret out of J.O. bag so that new hires will know what they are facing. Loooooooooooooooooong upgrades. No justifiable reason to put up with it unless you live in one of our domiciles. Mesa does not have fast upgrades. Blast it everywhere. It is a fact. Choke off the new hire pipeline with the truth but most importantly please stop saying it unless you have something to back it up.
Thank you for your time

He's right...The Dash is the only way to go at Mesa...I left the DH8 upgrade and Mesa just shy of a year just to stick it to the Man - F that place.

Ah the gimme generation. If he didn't feel he deserved the jet instead swallowing a little pride he could of upgraded when he ATP mins. Atp mins gets you 121 captain on a 1900 here at Mesa. Oh thats right they forget that Airmidwest is part of the senority list here. He'd have 1000+pic be able to leap small buildings in a single bound and all that other good stuff. There are tons of regional pilots running around with 1000 pic. Its going to take a better attitude then this.

What's that supposed to mean. Most hires at Mesa have NO choice in what aircraft they get...He's saying he's stuck because of Mesas type lock...If he could go fly the 1900 I bet he would in a heart beat..

When you work for a company that is hiring street captains and upgrading guys in 2-6 months in other turbo prop aircraft and you can't make the move after 2.5 years in the CRJ I think you'd be a bit bent too...
SkyW guys can hire into the CRJ and upgrade into the EMB 12 months later...I guess it's the price you pay for sticking around at Mesa....

The Fact that you can not move from aircraft to aircraft is part of the BS in the last agreement that was given up to get the freedom flyin gon the Mesa senority list.
What I was saying above is that when guys interview and find out they are getting the 1900 most quit because they have "paid there dues" and deserve a jet job. That seems to be the attitude from the guys coming out of the pilot factories. Trust me I would rather sit right seat in a jet for 6 months before going to the left but I can't get any other aircraft with out going Captain on a jet for which I have 0 time in. I don't think its safe or fair for that matter. I understand why he is frustrated, there are guys around him upgrading on equipment he can't get into but he knew that when he signed up a whole 2.5 years ago. Just like he knew it blew here.

He has the mins but his senority will not hold it. He is also bitter about JO saying the upgrade is quick. Statistically speaking it is but nobody recognizes the 1900 operation as a part of Mesa. Hell I have told flight attendents in the CLT crew room what I fly and they never had a clue we existed.
FYI if it comes out of JO's mouth take it with a grain of salt, that is about all its worth.

Mesa has seen very little growth this year and this is why the upgrades are terrible. Republic, SKYW and XJT's upgrades are better cause they are winning the new flying because they are quality regionals.
Resist the urge to fly for a second tier company! He is right- spread the word!
